The Heritage Club at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotels at 51�Թ�� organized a special event to mark World Heritage Day, which falls on April 18th of each year. The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fakhrieh Darabseh and under the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Saad Al-Saad, with the attendance of several deans, as well as academic and administrative staff.

The event reflects the Faculty’s commitment to raising awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and its protection. It featured a diverse program highlighting the richness and authenticity of Jordanian heritage. Activities included a traditional Jordanian fashion show, and poetry recitals performed by students, expressing pride in national identity.

Students showed strong engagement. The event created space to connect heritage with the present. It included an exhibition of traditional artifacts representing aspects of daily life, along with a selection of local dishes that reflect the diversity of Jordanian cuisine. A henna art corner drew notable interest from attendees.

The European Union Ambassador to Amman, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, commenced his visit to 51�Թ�� by commending the longstanding and robust partnership between Jordan and the European Union, describing it as a distinguished international model of cooperation grounded in shared values and mutual interests. He underscored the University’s pivotal role in translating this partnership into tangible and impactful outcomes.In a statement reflecting Jordan’s prominent international standing, Ambassador Chatzisavas remarked: “When we refer to the Middle East, we refer to His Majesty King Abdullah II, in recognition of his pivotal and prudent role in fostering regional stability.” He further emphasized that Jordan constitutes a principal reference point for the European Union in navigating and understanding the complexities of the region.This took place during the Ambassador’s meeting with the President of 51�Թ��, Professor Malek Al-Sharaireh, and his participation in a panel discussion organized by the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the Faculty of Arts, entitled “Jordanian–European Relations.” The session was moderated by Dr. Ayman Al-Hiyajneh and attended by a distinguished audience of academic leaders and students.For his part, Professor Al-Sharaireh outlined the broad framework of academic cooperation between 51�Թ�� and European institutions, noting that the University has successfully established robust and sustainable partnerships. This is evidenced by clear indicators of institutional excellence, as more than 200 students participated in academic exchange programs with European universities between 2021 and 2026, while the University hosted a comparable number of European students—thereby consolidating its position as a regional hub for intercultural dialogue.With regard to international projects, Al-Sharaireh stated that the University has implemented approximately 24 European Union-funded projects, with total budgets exceeding €16.1 million, of which Yarmouk’s share amounted to approximately €1.97 million. He further noted that this collaboration extends beyond financial support to encompass capacity-building initiatives benefiting 170 faculty members and dozens of administrative staff, in addition to the implementation of strategic projects in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and digital transformation.Al-Sharaireh also affirmed that the University’s future strategic direction is oriented toward the development of double-degree programs and the expansion of joint research initiatives, with the aim of reinforcing its role as a key academic partner of the European Union in the region.In the context of regional developments, Ambassador Chatzisavas commended the high level of coordination between the two sides in upholding international humanitarian law and praised Jordan’s central role in facilitating humanitarian access corridors to both the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.On the economic front, the Ambassador announced a €300 million support package dedicated to the education sector in the Kingdom, highlighting the European Union’s strategic orientation toward investment in major national projects, including the National Water Carrier and the digital economy. 51�Թ�� won the silver medal in engineering at the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology (I-FEST²), held in Tunisia and organized by theTunisian Association for the Future of Sciences and Technology (ATAST). Meanwhile, more than 500 participants from different 62 countries around the world took part in the festival.

The medal was awarded by Ibrahim Nabil Al-Majli and Sara Osama Al-Badr, members of Robotics team from the faculty of Hijawi for Engineering Technology, 51�Թ��. They introduced their project: "AI Powered Sumo Robot" that reflects a high level of innovation of using AI technologies in engineering applications and robotics.

Prof. Awad Al-Zaben, the dean of the faculty, stated that this achievement reflects the advanced level of students who are so keen to uphold the university honorable reputation regionally and internationally.He also emphasized on supporting the innovative projects as well as providing a nurturing environment for creativity to prepare a qualified staff in engineering who will be international competitors in the future. He also added that this achievement reflects the distinctive level of the faculty's students that aligns with the university mission in supporting students' creativity and academic research.

Dr. Shadi Al-Laboun, the team supervisor, expressed his pride of the students' achievement, emphasizing that the participation in such international competitions can develop students skills, boost their practical experience, and give them chances to present their projects to specialized global juries.

Among the whole Jordanian universities , the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center at 51�Թ�� concluded the activities of the First National Digital Hackathon during the university’s celebrations of the Golden Jubilee.The event was held in collaboration with Smart Summit for Training and Data Analysis.The events aimed to promote the culture of entrepreneurship, enhance students’ capabilities, and give them chances to transform their creative ideas into minimum viable products (MVPs) that might overcome serious challenges during Ramadan.

The Hackathon reflects the vision of His Majesty, King Abdullah II, to modernize the National Economic System and encourage the knowledge-based economy. It also aims at meeting the intensive commitment of His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince to empower Jordanian youth in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence as well as enabling them to be creative leaders of change in the second centennial of the Jordanian state.

During the event, Professor Malik Al-Sharayri, President of 51�Թ��, emphasized that the Hackathon represents a practical model of strategic partnership between the academic and private sectors that can be represented by Smart Summit.
In addition, he highlighted that the university seeks, through such partnerships, to move beyond the traditional framework of education towards wider horizons of innovation and entrepreneurship, with the goal of equipping the national market with practical and applicable digital solutions. He further noted that collaboration with technological partners ensures that Hackathon outcomes can meet the international and professional standards.

Dr. Muwaffaq Ayyad, Director of the Center, stated that this event represents the first fully digital national Hackathon that brings together students from Jordanian universities under a single virtual platform so that they can develop innovative solutions to societal challenges associated with Ramadan.

Dr. Ayyad emphasized that during 48 continuous hours of intensive work, 110 students, representing 11 public and private universities, were able to participate in the digital challenge.

The event began with preparatory workshops conducted via Zoom platforms, followed by “Programming and Innovation Marathon,” which focused on developing technological solutions to community challenges related to the holy month, Ramadan.The hackathon witnessed wide participations from various disciplines, including Artificial Intelligence, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Business Administration.

50 teams participated in the Hackathon, 20 from 51�Թ��, and the rest were from Al-Hussein Technical University, Applied Science Private University, Al al-Bayt University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, Jordan University of Science and Technology, Amman Arab University, Tafila Technical University, Al-Balqa Applied University, Irbid National University, and The World Islamic Sciences and Education University.

The projects were carefully evaluated by a specialized judging committee that included a number of elite experts from pioneering academic institutions, the Crown Prince Foundation, as well as professionals from the medical and technology sectors.

10 outstanding projects reached the final stage. The best three projects were selected for the award podium.

Second Place: Team M² – Al al-Bayt University

Al-Shraireh emphasized the university’s strong commitment to its international students, noting that Yarmouk provides a welcoming and motivating learning environment and comprehensive academic and social support that facilitates excellence and meaningful integration into campus life. He also highlighted the depth of Yarmouk’s academic and cultural ties with Indonesian universities, praising Indonesian students for their academic distinction, adherence to university regulations, and active engagement in the wide range of co-curricular activities organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs. He noted the distinguished record of Indonesian Yarmouk graduates, many of whom now in influential leadership positions in their home country, viewing this outcome as a clear indicator of the university’s quality and impact. During the visit, the ambassador and accompanying delegation participated in the Irbid 2026 Exhibition (IRBID EXPO), held at Al-Kindi Auditorium in the Faculty of Arts. The event aims to promote cultural and intellectual exchange between Jordan and Indonesia, provide a platform for Indonesian students in Jordan to express their culture and arts, encourage intercultural dialogue, and broaden students’ horizons at local and international levels. The exhibition featured an art showcase of student work in painting, sculpture, and handicrafts, offering a vivid window into contemporary Indonesian heritage and student creativity.
